Gujarat is the trip for people who buy things. Not souvenirs – the embroidery, block-printing, bandhani and mirror-work of Kutch are done by families who have done them for generations, and you meet them at home rather than in a shop.
The Rann itself is the other reason: a salt flat the size of a small country that floods each monsoon and dries to a white crust, and in winter fills with flamingos and wild ass.
