The Andamans are a long way from everywhere – three hours flying from Chennai – and that is the point. Havelock has the beach that appears on every list, and it earns it: white sand, shallow turquoise water, and forest coming down to the sand.
Port Blair is not a beach town and people treat it as a transit stop, which is a mistake. The Cellular Jail is where the British held Indian independence prisoners in solitary confinement, and it is a serious, well-presented place.
A starting point, not a fixed departure. Every element below can be lengthened, shortened or swapped.

Inter-island ferries book out weeks ahead in season and are the single constraint on this trip – give us your dates early. Some islands are closed to visitors entirely to protect the indigenous communities, and that is not negotiable. The sea is rough from May to September and many operators close.
Fly to Port Blair from Chennai, Kolkata or Delhi – about three hours from the mainland. Everything after that is by ferry.
Foreign nationals need a permit, issued on arrival at Port Blair. Several islands are closed entirely to protect the indigenous communities, and that is absolute.
Sun and sea are the main risks. There is one good hospital in Port Blair and very little on the islands – anyone diving should have insurance that covers it.
Reef-safe sunblock, a rash vest, and any medication you need. Resupply is limited and expensive.
